I’ve been super busy lately! Moved to a new city and started university. Don’t worry I'm still here!

Ok, so Kiva is this awesome website where you can loan money to people all around the world to help them out with their businesses.

I’m kind of tired and want to got to bed soon… so I’ll just copy and paste this from their website!

If you’re like me and wish you could help in a big way but are a bit short on extra cash then this is the site for you! My favourite part is the fact that you choose how much to lend and you choose who the money goes to!

I love this, it’s great being able to see the impact your money can have! And remember, it’s a loan! When you get your money back you know that that business is now able to survive on it’s own! Awesome!!

The idea behind this is so simple yet so important.

I just realised I have 5 followers. You all made me feel very special today! Thank you.

Knowing that people read this has motivated me to post something, unfortunately I have no recent mission to post. Sorry!

Right now I feel like I’m failing this new years resolution of mine, I’m at a loss for random acts of kindness ideas. So, I need your help!!! Have you done anything similar recently? Maybe your own operation beautiful, or something completely different? Inspire me and inspire your fellow-followers. (Isn’t that a fun word combo? ‘fellow-followers’ brilliant!)

Second Mission

I was at home with my cousin and I remembered the pile of post-its just sitting in my room all ready to be used. So I texted B and my other cousin and asked them to join. It was good timing because B had just finished work when I texted her!

We went back to the toilets that were locked during the first mission and posted a few in there, then we went back to McDonalds and KFC just like the first mission. Next we went and stuck some post-its on random objects for sale in supermarkets and other shops. Here are a couple of photos;

Problem: Because I wrote the notes a while before the mission they were starting to loose their stickiness.

Solution: We made sure we stuck them on really well or slid them in behind the mirror a little bit if it wasn’t sticky at all.

Problem: I’m a self-confessed goody good and I was seriously freaking out about getting caught putting post-its on items that were for sale.

Solution: Put the post-its on items in the second row on the shelf.

Wet Weather World Changers

Right now it’s 10:24pm and it’s raining outside. I can’t very well go out and put op post it notes now can I? Ok, I could, but I don’t want to. And yet, I feel like doing something worth while, but not have to leave my warm lounge and comfy chair. If you are ever in a similar situation, never fear, here are some ideas.

Start writing out some post-it messages now. Try looking up some inspiring quotes or verses. That way you won’t end up like me and B, sitting outside KFC quickly trying to think of things to write. Check out the Operation Beautiful website for some post-it ideas.
Use Givoogle. It donates the money it gets from advertising to help fight cancer! It’s pretty much the same as google, you’ll come up with the same results, but you’ll be doing your little bit to help cancer research! “Search the web. Save the world”
Play Free Rice. It’s a pretty sweet deal where everyone wins. You get to learn stuff, the advertisers get and audience, the money from the advertisers is used to buy rice for hungry children. It’s win, win, win! What could be better?
Check out the Hunger Site. Just by clicking on the big orange button once a day you can do your little bit to save the world, sort-of. There’s also some pretty cool jewellery and clothes if you feel like doing some online shopping while saving the world.
Make your friends feel special. Send them a text, an email, a comment on facebook, whatever your friends use. Say something that’ll make them feel good and remind them how important and beautiful they are! Ok, so this isn’t going to change the world, but it will put a smile on your friends’ faces, and maybe make their day!

Why are we doing this? are we actually making a difference?

Little things do make a difference!
Have you ever noticed how you always remember those little, seemingly insignificant events? Those little memories that you can see so clearly. They're not the big events, the ones you're supposed to remember. It's the little things. I can remember the first time I ever met my best friend, the first time I finished reading my, now, favourite book. I'm sure you can think of some examples for yourself.

Small acts of kindness can make someone's day.
There are so many examples of this in givesmehope.com so i've picked out a few good ones.

My brother has Down Syndrome and doesn't speak very well. This week while we were down the beach he tried to learn how to skim board.He would try and ask the other boys how they did it and they would laugh at him and walk away. The last day 4 teenage boys spent hours with him teaching him. They were so patient. He wouldn't stop smiling :)They GMH.

Today I was going out for a coffee with my boyfriend. On the way I passed a homeless man and gave him $5. When I got to Starbucks my boyfriend dumped me. I walked home crying, and when I passed the homeless man he told me how sorry he was, and offered to buy me a coffee. He used the $5 I gave him, and smiled proudly as he handed over the money. GMH

I suffer from severe depression. I try to keep that part of me away from friends because I'm worried they'll judge me for it. After revealing this to a dear friend via email, he went silent. I went to bed feeling worse than ever. Early the next morning, there was a knock at the door. He had driven all night to see me, just to give me a hug. GMH.

A helping hand can make a huge difference in someone's life.

A long time ago, I was on the verge of committing suicide when a guy came to the roof to have lunch. He saw me climbing over the railing and asked me to share his lunch with him. After receiving my puzzled look, he explained, "everyone should die happy. or at least with a full stomach." We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary last month. GMH.

Two years ago, I tried to kill myself by swallowing a bottle of painkillers. My online friend, who I'd never met, was the only person who knew. He called 911, they pumped my stomach to save my life. Today, I got my bachelor's degree in sociology. I'm now going to grad school. GMH

I work in a bank - a place where good news is hard to come by recently: Today I spoke with a gentleman who told me he needed to know how much money he had. When I asked if he had a large purchase coming up, he said yes. "I'm buying clothes for the man who asks me for a quarter every day on my way to school," he replies. This gentleman was 12. GMH

One act of bravery can change the world.

First Mission

After spending a couple hours wrapping christmas presents I had no desire to simply go home and do nothing productive.
S: We need to do something!
B: Like what?
S: You know that invite I sent you for Operation Beautiful on facebook?
B: Uh-huh
S: Well I went and bought some post-its today...
B: I'm in! Let's do it!
(Conversation not entirely accurate...)

So we went and grabbed the post-it notes and started wrting messages on the such as "You are beautiful" We wanted to stcik them on mirrors of public toilets so when people looked in the mirror it would make them smile!

McDonald's Bathroom

Problem: All the public toilets close at nine and most of the shops were closed well before nine....
Solution: KFC and McDonald's can always be relied upon for being open ridiculously late! And we did find a couple of "close at 9pm" public toilets that were still open!

Problem: Our post-it notes were kindof small and may not be noticed.
Solution: Use more than one post-it note on each mirror.

Problem: Walking in and out of KFC and McDonald's toilets without buying anything and looking very suspicious...
Solution: Meh!

Mission Status: Success!

What is Mission 15.30?
Mission 15.30 is our resolution for 2010 to do small and random things just to make people smile!

How did it start?
It started when i stumbled across this website; Operation Beautiful. After posting random post-it notes around all the public toilets that were still open at 9:30pm (mostly KFC and McDonald's,) we decided that doing stuff like that was so much fun that we wanted to do it more often!

What does 15.30 stand for?
Proverbs 15:30 - A cheerful look brings joy to the heart;
good news makes for good health. (NLT)

Smiling makes you happy (proven scientific fact) and being happy is good for you (probable scientific fact) so our mission is to make people smile!

What is the point of this blog?
To inspire anyone who reads this to do the same thing. You don't have to call it the same thing or do all the same stuff we're doing, just spead some joy in your corner of the world!
